Current Behavior
The new Get Order Lines functionality on Purchase Invoices does not support Purchase Orders linked to Projects. When users retrieve purchase order lines using Get Order Lines, the following project-related fields are not transferred to the Purchase Invoice line:
- Project No.
- Project Task No.
- Project Line Type
Additionally, the matched invoice line becomes locked and cannot be modified manually, resulting in posting issues for project-related purchasing scenarios. This behavior is currently documented as a known limitation of the feature.
Business Impact
Organizations using Projects frequently create Purchase Orders with project allocations and later invoice those orders through Purchase Invoices.
The newer Get Order Lines experience offers significant flexibility for invoice matching, however project-based orders cannot fully benefit from this functionality because the required project information is not carried over to the invoice lines.
This creates an inconsistent user experience because:
- Get Receipt Lines preserves project-related information.
- Get Order Lines does not preserve the same information.
- Users must use alternative processes instead of the newer matching functionality.
- Users may encounter posting issues when project fields are required.
Requested Enhancement
Extend Get Order Lines support to project-linked Purchase Orders by:
- Transferring Project No., Project Task No., and Project Line Type from the source Purchase Order line to the Purchase Invoice line.
- Maintaining the project relationship during the matching process.
- Allowing project-based purchasing scenarios to use the same advanced matching capabilities available to non-project purchase orders.
- Aligning behavior between Get Order Lines and Get Receipt Lines wherever possible.
Benefit
This enhancement would allow customers using Projects to take advantage of the advanced purchase invoice matching functionality without losing project information, reducing manual workarounds and providing a more consistent purchasing experience across Business Central.
