There are three inventory types that give an indication of the usability of an item:

unrestricted-use stock

stock in quality inspection

blocked stock

For goods receipts, you should determine which stock type a quantity is posted to. The stock type is relevant for determining the available stock in MRP and for withdrawals in Inventory Management.

The unrestricted-use stock is always available from the MRP point of view. The stock in quality inspection and the blocked stock are not available.

- A solution via storage locations distorts the FIFO or LIFO stock issue method.

- A solution via storage bins is not a stock separating characteristic and therefore does not help with inventory management.
