On timesheets and expense reports you can address a project in another company and post to these projects. If you consume items, this is not possible. It should be possible to do intercompany item consumption. E.g. you go to your own stock and get a part to be build into a prototype product. The project is owned by another company, so the item consumption should be posted on the project in the other legal entity. You should also be able to do purchase requisitions and item requirements related to a project owned by another company.

Without this feature, each separate company will need to setup their own project to perform these transactions, which means you cant see a holistic view of the multidisciplinary work/effort/consumption of the project. The only place to see this would be some external reporting to combine the transactions.

I agree that consuming items will be useful. The transaction of the items to the other company might have to be via a intercompany sales order in the "lending" company and a Project linked intercompany Purchase order in the "borrowing" company. But initiated from the timesheet/expense report possibly.

If you add intercompany project expense transactions as intercompany journal entries, then you would have the "full set" of hours transactions, item transactions, and expense transactions to handle the relaity of intercompany project collaboration.
