Requesting for ability to associate Alternative Items, for a given Item. This is desired, and is expected to be used in MRP planning and Production order processing. Right now, there is a provision for specifying one Alternative Item, and it is confined to basic features in Sales Orders.

Thanks John and Carol for posting your comments requesting this functionality. The functionality should allow using up a particular item then switching to another item once the original item is depleted. This is a very common requirement and effectivity dates do not address this requirement for many customers. We definitely need this functionality to support the Alternative BOM Items. This is vital for our business.Beatriz - Appreciate considering this idea in the future D365 releases. Thanks,Venkat

As mentioned by others, this is functionality that many customers have requested for discrete manufacturing. Thinking back to the most recent 5 projects, all 5 clients requested this ability to plan for alternate BOM items, whether for a substitution/alternate item or for a change in revision/configuration of a component.

It would be excellent to have this added to the discrete bom functionality - along with the ability to do rework like you can with formulas. Sequence planning in discrete manufacturing is also long overdue.

This is a functionality most of the customers would take advantage of if it was available. Basically the ask is at a minimum to support the same functionality that is avaialable in Process Manufacturing for Discrete production orders. I'm surprised by the low number of votes for this as this seems to be a desired functionality for every customer I've ever worked with.

@Raja Chegu this can be done with Plan Group & Priority if you are using formula items instead of BOM items.

Thank you for your feedback.
Currently this is not in our roadmap; however, we are tracking it and if we get more feedback and votes, we may consider it in the future.
