Real world examples are very difficult to apply to the out-of-the-box Sales Territories in CRM. In the real world, more than one sales person manages a territory and one sales person can manage several sales territories. Especially when a company is growing. A Manager can have Region A and Region B until B Manager comes along and takes over Region B. Then Region C Manager leaves and Region B must take over that territory until a replacement is made. This also applies to the members in a region. Junior sales people can be helping out in multiple regions. CRM is very restrictive in this regard. Please spend some time implementing something useful in future releases around Territory Management.

Territory modeling is a common business need.  For example, the sales manager should be able to create multiple territory models in draft status (where they can overlay a visual map and look at forecasting numbers for future periods). These draft models can then be sent through an approval process to other users to gather feedback and/or send back to the creator to make adjustments.  Once a final territory model is approved, the changes should be able to be "published" to roll out into production.  Ideally, the system would retain point in time models so that changes can be tracked year over year.
