On BOM lines, it would be good to have the ability to bring product number column next to the item number column. For engineering companies, product number has more meaning to the engineers putting the BOM together than the item number especially if they are different. i.e. product number is CAD generated where item number is from a sequential number series.

This will also be helpful in lists where item number column exists.
