This idea relates to the Demand Forecasting parameters within the Master Planning module.

Currently, historical demand is generated based on the 'Expected Date' of sale inventory transactions. I would like to suggest that a demand forecasting parameter be introduced which gives the client the option to select other Inventory Transaction Date Types.

The preference in our business would be to peg the historical demand calculation on the 'Financial Date'.

The Expected Date is defined as the 'Confirmed Ship Date', or if this date is not recorded on the sales order line, the 'Requested Ship Date'. I understand the reasoning for using 'Expected Date', but the underlying assumption is that we work in a perfect world where we always have stock available at the time the customer raises the order. If an item is out of stock at the time of the order, a confirmed ship date (or Expected Date) of a sales order line could be well into the future, skewing the accuracy of when the demand occurred. Every client will experience different supply chain challenges for their products and therefore, should have the option to choose a date which reflects when the sales order line was actually shipped and invoiced.
