Its neccessary to remove ineficcient data entry. If you are in business for decades then its likely that most leads created are for already existing customers/accounts (existing customer doesnt mean its opportunity). When starting with lead there should be first iption to choose from existing account/customer and if not existing then "create new" is promted. Right now its opposite, you fill in all fields and then system tells that records existing - so all data entry was waste of time.
