Similar to the page inspector, we would like to have a report inspector.

The report inspector should allow us to see:
- The ID and Name of the current report
- The current selected layout (ID, Name, Type) of the report
- The Dataset, it's values, and applied filters, of the current report
- Any errors that prevent the current report from running (currently there's no error info available when something goes wrong.)
- The ability to export the dataset (to xls, xml,...), so it can be analysed

Thank you for your feedback. We have built a feature in 2021 Wave 2 that supports saving report dataset to Excel, either for use by developers, consultants or power users as part of developing report layouts (i.e., similar to About this Report known from the Windows client, but in Excel instead), or for use by end customers to export report data to Excel for further processing, e.g., filtering or pivoting. This feature can be tried out in the insider build  artifacts already for vnext/v19 (use "Save as Microsoft Excel (data only)" option in report request page), but as we plan and hope to also backport this to a 2021 Wave 1 minor (currently targeting v18.3) due to demand and usefulness, this idea is marked for April 2021 release for now.

Update July 6th 2021:
We have shipped this in Minor Update 18.3. See Docs for more: Working with Reports, Batch Jobs, and XMLports - Business Central | Microsoft Docs

This needs to work for Word reports as well as RDLC reports

Working in a post-windows client world, developers can't debug RDLC errors - nothing is displayed in "Last error".
Hope to see this fixed in 2020.

Really useful feature that has been omitted from the web client. Now that there is no Windows Client that can be used to debug report behaviour you are left guessing whether a problem is with the dataset generated or the report layout.

Why do we even need to vote for something like this?

Please provide this feature as it has left the developers little helpless.

The modern client almost inherited all functionality from windows client like F8, saving page filter etc. Which is great! One important feature - for developers and more advanced end users - is still missing though: the inspector as described above!
In practice I now have to rebuild the AL-report in CA/L trying to reproduce situations to investigate. This has to be taken into account in new implementations and upgrades to al resulting in higher costs for our customers.

What could be awesome, with being able to see the dataset again, would be the ability to export the dataset and use it in Report Builder to test the layout locally.

We need this feature as soon as possible, without it good report designing and debugging is not possible.

Without this feature, the RDLC report developer is blindfolded - please do this ASAP
