Great idea.
I think most of the plumbing already exists in the Integration Table Mapping area, which uses Job Queue polling and has configurable mapping - this would just need a new CU to do the Synchronise action.
There is another Idea that asks to make the Integration Table/Field Mapping more user-editable, which would also need to happen.

Please also take into account 'Contacts', since often they are the main entry point to create a customer / vendor.
If contacts are used in the communication (mailing documents, printout on documents, ...), contacts are to be synched as well accross companies.

Even worse:
When syncing items/sales prices from one company to another, it should not update the "costs" and it would be required that some sales prices go into the purchase prices of the receiving company.

This is a good idea. But please make also possible at the feature that some field are not centralized managed. Because one company had different payment methods or payment terms then another company.
