When an email is tracked through Dynamics 365 App for outlook it does not show track icon against that email Wherein in Dynamics 365 client for outlook we are able to see track icon. In order to check that if email is tracked or not.
Detailed steps:
1. Logged in as a CRM user in OWA or Desktop Outlook
2. To check if email is track, need to open email and click on Dynamics 365 app for outlook icon
3. If email is tracked it will show as track, if not it will give us the option to track
Ask:
User should be able to see an "icon" to know if the email is tracked or not as it shows in Dynamics 365 Client for Outlook
Comments
That feature is really needed....
User need to know if an email is tracked or not.
I can not understand why this feature is not a availble.
Why is si long to resolve that situation?

Can't believe MS didn't add this to the CRM App. People, for YEARS, have been used to the CRM icon in Outlook, letting them know which emails have been tracked.
Now, with the new App, they have no idea.
Can't believe we, as customers, had to suggest this to Microsoft!

If you email someone and it is tracked and then later on they reply, that the email should be tracked. Everyone is having problems understanding if an email is tracked or not. It is really bad. People are wasting tons of time wondering if an email is tracked or not and then getting frustrated with one another because they can't tell if an email is tracked or not. You get no indication an email is tracked no CRM tracked by category no people icon. So how does anyone in your organization tell that your email was tracked already? Does Microsoft want to have everyone each individually track the same email just to make sure it was in CRM? When is this issue being resolved? This should be very easy for them to figure out for us since all of our emails are being processed through Exchange Online. If email is processed by Exchange Online and tracked in Dynamics, then show tracked icon for everyone in the same org.

The ability to see which email has been tracked is a huge hole in App for Outlook. In order to determine if the email has been track the user now has to click on the email which adds addition time that the users do not have. The ability to see in the Email view via the tracking icon saved time especially in the case where the email was tracked by other users prior to sending.

Why is this taking so long? This seems so obvious it should have been included in 1.0
Our users are getting angry about this problem (why did we say this was better than the plugin when it clearly doesn't work right?) and it's stalling Dynamics adoption at my enterprise (going to be discussing this madness with our Account Executive in addition to voting for this "idea").

Hello All, I tried the work around, but the only limitation with it is, you will have to set the Conditional Formatting of the view to all the folders. This cascading of the view will fail and the reason is the missing crmLinkState field on the rest of the folder's forms. Hence you will have to 1st create the field in each and every folder's forms and then cascade the view from Inbox to rest of the folders. This is very time consuming. I tried searching for any VB .Net scripts which would automate the process but didn't find any. I guess our best option would be to wait for the enhancement/feature addition for the tracking icon. Thanks.

** Work Around ** (When I mean work around I mean better than nothing!)
In Outlook Desktop Client you can add a column named "crmLinkState" (without quotes). To do this, go to the View tab, click View Settings button, click Columns , then click New Column. Type crmLinkState as the name. The column Type should be Number. Please also note that "crmLinkState" is case sensitive. The values which now appear in your new column mean the following:
blank - never tracked
0 - means untracked, i.e. it was tracked at some point but not currently
1 - track pending
2 - currently tracked
Now you have the new column in Outlook you can use Conditional Formatting in your View to altar the way a tracked email looks. What I have done is for any email which contains a crmLinkState = 2 than change the font colour to "Teal". All my tracked emails will be Teal in colour and my untracked emails will be Black in colour.
Hopefully this helps anyone else out there who is scratching their head as much as I am.
Moving forward ideally I would like to see all the functionality of the Dynamics 365 Outook Client rolled into the App like multi selecting items to Track and also having it so the app automatically tracks my outgoing replies if they where tracked to begin with. For us automatically tracking the outbound reply is equally as important as tracking the inbound reply as sometimes its the sender who has the last words!

We have implemented the new App, but all of our Users are not happy that it is not included.

Have users who like the app, but the bulk of users are hesitant to use it due to lack of indication on an email whether an email is tracked. Without this feature, users waste a lot of time clicking the “Dynamics” button for emails that have already been tracked.

Thank you for your feedback. Dynamics 365 App for outlook uses outlook category to identify records tracked in Dynamics 365. Please refer to the following link for more information: Use Outlook category to track appointments and emails
