When creating an interaction that has an attachment with a wizard type of 'Open' (i.e. template 'BUS' in Cronus), the mailmerge functionality only works in the RTC, not in the web client. When creating it from the web client, you can only open a copy of the Word template with merge fields. None of the Interaction contents are actually merged into these merge fields.
In response on a support ticket that I registered at Microsoft, it is stated that:

'Windows Client works well, as we can still run DotNet components with property RunOnClient = Yes to merge data and to create word documents. With the WebClient we do not allow this and therefore the current state is that you can download only the document which is not helpful at all. This will be handled in a feature design change request and is not in scope of a typical request for hot fix.'

Since we are moving to a 'web client only' situation, this feature should (imho) be quickly redesigned to have it available in the Web Client. Hopefully this will be before the October 2019 release.

Without this feature the user experience for our customers will take a major hit, as some of them have hundreds of templates defined for all sorts of communication events.
So another vote from an ISV right here!

The interaction feature is very critical to our business. The NAV interaction functionality is age-old needs full revamp. Communication is the basic feature of any modern application. The interaction feature should be widened for all kinds of incoming and outgoing communication.
Users should be able to easily create templates:
1. Email
2. Email with attachments
3. SMS
4. Print
All kind of system communication should be captured in this:
1. Purchase orders sent
2. Sales orders received
3. Remittance emails
4. Customer communication
5. Vendor Communication
6. Contact Communication

We have a lot of customers who use daily this feature in NAV 2018 or Business Central RTC.

Strange: this idea has a lot more votes than others which are already finished or planned, but is not even under review?? Is the roadmap more depending on the efforts it takes to implement the feature than on the need of customers??

This is an important feature if one wants to use the CRM module efficiently , and it was available more or less from the beginning of NAV. So you say now it is BC365 and we don't need this any longer?? What about customers who paid for this feature with maintenance fees for years?? You do not offer an alternative with the same functionality.

If it is a technical issue, I guess you have enough engineering power to find a solution, don't you?

Hi,

the merge-functionality is a fundamental function in interaction / segment of Dynamics NAV.
Currently existing customers can use this out of the box with RTC.

But when they upgrade to BC15 where RTC is obsolete, so the merge-functionality its not more available.
It is at least necessary the same functions as known in NAV.

We and especially our Customer strongly need this function to be able to use interaction /semgents in BC.
