If an activity is created (Add New) from a sub grid the regarding field does not get defaulted to the record as it does when the activity is created from the ADD menu on the ribbon

It would be a more consistent user experience if the both methods of adding an activity operated in the same way and Regarding field consistently defaulted to record the activity was created from

Using subgrid on Account, Contact or Opportunity record, or the associated view, and clicking "Add New Activity"on the List Tools | Activities contextual Ribbon tab *does* fill in the regarding just as I would expect. This is using CRM Online, and tested in one on-premises deployment too (with UR6). Sounds like a deployment-specific problem - do you have any scripts running on the activity forms? Is this a custom parent entity? Does it work for some activity types and not others?

Thank you for your suggestion. We are considering this functionality for a future release of CRM. Steve This posting is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I have also encountered this behavior when trying to add tasks using the new Social Pane in CRM 2013. For example, on an account record, I have the social pane showing Posts, Activities, and Notes. If I add a task activity from there, the task is created, but the regarding object id (i.e. the Account) is not available to a plugin on create event of that tasks, although it does show on the task record if I load up that task after it has been created. The regarding object id only seems to be available prior to create if you use the full task form (add new activity from Associated Activities view). I also would like to see this be more consistent, the regarding object should be available during create of a task no matter where it was created from.

I recently upgraded my IE9 to IE10 and the functionality in CRM2013 started working. When you create the activity the regarding is not set in the UI, but on save it gets set ok. Not sure if this was a timing thing - or to do with IE10? Anyway, the ability to create an activity and have the regarding set does seem to be working in CRM2013 (online) and IE10.

Not sure what resolved means? This is still occurring in CRM 2013 online and is even more of an issue with the new navigation. Please, please Microsoft resolve this soon. As the new Activities Control is not customisable our customers are asking for (specific) Activity sub-grids to be added, only to find the regarding is not set. It is now more confusing to navigate to and from the full Activities Associated view. The really frustrating part is that the Activities Sub-grid works, but the view columns available are locked to the generic (global) activity ones. Customers often want Activity specific columns available, therefore a sub-grid for a specific activity. Going round in circles here with customers wondering why this is so difficult? (Me too!) Looking forward to seeing when 'Resolved' applies to the product.
